Just hardly a year after the release of the original 'Rock Band,' and after steadily dropping a trio of new tracks nearly every week, Harmonix and MTV have rallied a host of top acts to bolster the musical offerings in 'Rock Band 2.' Set to ship later this year RB2 seems to have started the promotional rounds, finding coverage on G4's X-Play.

Although it flashed on-screen for just a moment, in this age of digital video it was just a matter of rewinding the show and snapping a picture of the visible songs to get people talking. Ambitious forum poster, MasterAce -- of the 'Rock Band' fansite, SCOREHERO, hooked us up with a shot of the list (below).

From what we can tell, the following tracks appear to be included in 'Rock Band 2':

Panic Attack - (Finger Eleven or Dream Theater)
Chop Suey - System of a Down
Give It Away - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Everlong - Foo Fighters
Kids in America - Kim Wilde
Ace of Spades - Motorhead
Hello There - Cheap Trick
Any Way You Want It - Journey
Pinball Wizard - The Who
More Than A Feeling - Boston
All The Small Things - Blink 182

The inclusion of the Death Knight has been speculated since the title's initial release and clearly confirmed in the opening salvo of promotion for the 'Wrath of the Lich King.'

Last weekend, Blizzard held their Worldwide Invitational in Paris to a captivated audience there to show off their finely honed PVP skills and to get ring-side seats to see debuting previews. While the announcement of 'Diablo 3' had the crowd buzzing, it was a momentary explosion compared to the steady rumbling from the folks taking the Death Knight on a test run.

WOW Insider has compiled a comprehensive breakdown of the Death Knight's abilities and unique features. Have a look.

If more Hollywood directors keep signing on for video game movie adaptations there just won't be any properties left for Uwe Boll.

The lastest dish on gaming movies comes from THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, who reveal that "Underworld" and "Live Free or Die Hard" director Len Wiseman has been tapped by New Line to helm the 'GEARS OF WAR' movie.

Writer of comic-to-film "Wanted" and "Fast and the Furious 4," Chris Morgan will handle the scripting duties, taking the reigns from the original "Gears" writer, Stuart Beattie.

Cliff "Learn to Spell My Name" Bleszinski, 'Gears' creative director imparted some wisdom on the development of an appropriate game-to-film adaptation.

...the tricks to adapting a game are simple: "Hollywood needs to take the source material seriously, win over the avid gamers and make it work for an audience that is young and old, male and female." But he also admitted that that plan is easier said than done.

"Disney made a great movie out of a theme park ride, and somebody is sooner or later going to make a great one out of a video game," Bleszinski said. "Having someone like Len really helps the odds. I think we're going to create something special here."

"Gears of War" has the opportunity to become one of the first well received game adaptations. While comic books have successfully found a successful formula for theaters, games have not been as fortunate. The most credible game films thus far have been "Mortal Kombat," "Tomb Raider," The Resident Evil franchise and the Christophe Gans ("Brotherhood of the Wolf") directed "Silent Hill." That is, if you don't count the Pokemon animated movies.

But for each one of those, there's a "Super Mario Bros.," "House of the Dead," DOA," "BloodRayne," "Doom", "Alone in the Dark" and "Hitman." Then there are properties like 'Halo' that one would think would get green lighted all the way to the screen, yet don't even get off the ground. Even the beautifully animated "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" was an epic snoozer.

We'll be waiting with anticipation at every bit of news from who gets casted as Marcus Fenix to the first shots of live Locust soldiers.

Ambitious forum members of NEOGAF have made an interesting discovery, according to 1UP, XBOX360 FANBOY, KOTAKU and several gaming news sources. By exploiting a security hole in marketing firm, Intellisponse's network, hackers were able to access various material detailing forthcoming products. Intellisponse recently conducted market research surveys for potential gaming features and it is presumed the leaked content was related to that campaign.

Among the rumored information:

...Xbox 360 'Avatars' which would be similar to the Wii's Miis. (see above)

...'Guitar Hero 4' potentially to feature a guitar with touch-sensitive (buttonless?) frets, with tracks by Hendrix, The Doors, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, System of a Down, Ozzy Osbourne, Interpol, Muse "and dozens more".

...'Lips' - a speculated karaoke game that uses your own music or downloaded songs, featuing wireless interactive microphones with motion sensing controls.

...Possible cover art for 'Call of Duty 5,' below.

...You could soon be able to get your 'ohm' on with 'Wii Yoga' with a virtual yoga guru, "matching their on-screen poses, stretches and triangular positions with the motion sensing Wii controller and balance board."

...'Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2' may relive the events of the recent Civil War storyline -- with the additional ability to combine super powers between teammates.

...Spider-man might star in an open-world game where he must save Earth from a horde of 'Marvel Zombies.'

...Which should have covers hopefully more dynamic than the rumored 'Web of Shadows' art.

As if getting in shape weren't tough enough, we can now count on 'Wii Fit' getting even tougher. No, I'm not talking about the shortage of 'Wii Fit's. I'm talking about the game kicking it up a notch by adding a personal trainer. Not just any ol' trainer, but one of the star fitness coaches on NBC's 'The Biggest Loser.' Yes -- the petite powerhouse, Jillian Michaels is teaming up with games publisher, MAJESCO, to develop a new title, 'Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum 2009.'

In 'Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum 2009' players become new recruits in Jillian's boot camp where they enroll in a unique training program composed of challenging fitness tests and an ever-changing series of workouts. Players choose their workout from four types--Weight Loss, Strength Training, Intervals and Hill Climb--and set the intensity to light, medium or hard for a duration between 10 and 60 minutes.

By completing exciting Wii Remote and Wii Balance Board motion-based challenges that range from crossing monkeybars to climbing ladders and rowing, players can also unlock lifestyle and fitness video tips from Jillian. Players can even track their progress based on calories burned and workout intensity. In addition, a Competitive Party Mode lets two players race against each other through entertaining individual challenges or through the entire Physical Training course to earn the winning time.

Jillian brings 13 years of martial arts training and 17 years as a personal trainer. She is also the author of 'Making the Cut' and star of the exercise DVDs, 'The Biggest Winner - How to Win by Losing' and '30-Day Shred.' Her WEBSITE offers an extensive biography, newsletter, blog, and testimonials. She strives to make healthy living accessible to everyone, and extending her expertise into video games allows Jillian to reach an audience that may be intimidated at making such a commitment to fitness.

"As a huge gamer myself with younger siblings and godchildren, I recognize the importance of staying current with how people digest their media and information," said Jillian Michaels. "I truly think this type of product will be instrumental in revolutionizing the fitness industry and will help combat the childhood obesity epidemic in this country today. I couldn't be more excited about partnering with Interactive Game Group and Majesco to bring a family-oriented fitness video game to the market."

Hopefully Jillian's no-nonsense attitude will remain in the game. Her fierce determination is what makes her uniquely inspiring, but challenging to translate into a game aimed at children.

When we last saw the Street Fighter franchise on the silver screen, the film did one thing right - it included a fair number of the series's main characters. All of the prominent Shadoloo baddies were present, from Raul Julia's last on-screen appearance as M. Bison down to Sagat, Balrog and Vega. And all of the most recognizable heroes had prominent roles. Ryu, Chun Li and Ken, were rounded out by a cast that included Jean Claude Van Damme as Guile, and Aussie pop-diva Kylie Minogue as Cammy.

Otherwise the movie was a hot mess.

The forthcoming film looks to raise the bar to 'Mortal Kombat' level, at least. "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li" has a pretty recognizable cast behind it, with Smallville's Kristin Kruek in the titular role. You may have already seen Black Eyed Peas dancer, Taboo, discussing his role as Vega. And we can't wait to see Michael Clark Duncan as big bad Balrog. There's also one, make that two, people we can't wait to see -- but will have to. Ken and Ryu - iconic figures in the Street Fighter mythos, won't be in the movie.

According to movie's BLOG, asking about the two frien-emies became a fairly common fan question. One that they differ to the film's producer, Patrick Aiello, for an answer.

PATRICK: “Justin, Ashok and Capcom got together and decided to make it more of an origin story for Chun Li. There are just way too many characters in the Street Fighter universe to cram them all into one film. We want to do each one the justice he/she deserves. So, in short, Ken and Ryu will not be appearing in this film. But, that doesn’t mean we wont see our red and white-clad heroes in potential sequels…”

Aiello is completely correct. Although fans clamor for the eye-candy of these types of ensemble films, they typically become a stew of characters mugging for screen-time. (X-Men movies, I'm looking at you.) Then, we turn around and bash the films for shallow characterization. By focusing the movie on Chun Li, they relaunch the movie franchise with one of the most popular protagonists in the game. An Asian female at the center of a martial arts film makes it far more palatable and recognizable to the general public who may not be familiar with the game.

'Legend of Chun Li' aims to move away from the camp of the original movie; a sensibility that hampered the Jamie Pressly fight-film, 'DOA', as well as 'Mortal Kombat: Annihilation' and the 1994 'Double Dragon' film starring Mark Dacascos, Scott Wolf and Alyssa Milano.

Alright. Regarding the tone, I’m pleased to say we are certainly not going for camp or cheese or any kind of laughs. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into the making of this film, and, you’re gonna see a lot of those ON film as well. While we’re definitely not trying to make the next Citizen Kane, we are going for a somewhat more realistic, gritty, dramatic , and oh yes, action-packed direction than you might expect. In turn, I think we’re going to give you a much more satisfying film.

If well received, expect sequels in the coming years - 'Ken and Ryu's High School Reunion,' 'Blanka To The Future' and the eventual 'Street Fighter 2 The Streets.'

Wait! Before you leave the house to go wait in line to buy 'METAL GEAR SOLID IV' at midnight, don't miss the (presumably) last installment of GAMETRAILER'S Metal Gear Retrospective.

Part Five in the series covers the various portable Metal Gear games on the PSP and Game Boy, 'Ghost Babel,' 'Acid,' and 'Portable Ops.'

In 'Ghost Babel,' a group of terrorists known as Gindra Liberation has captured an American cargo plane containing Metal Gear, the most dangerous weapon in the world, and taken it to their base located in central Africa. Rather than send an entire army to take over the base, the American government sends the man who was responsible for Metal Gear's first demise, Solid Snake.

'Metal Gear Acid' is a card-based simulation that progresses as a series of individual missions. 'Acid' is the first Metal Gear title to allow multiplayer battles in the VR realm, before 'Metal Gear Online' (a component of MGS IV).

'Portable Ops' introduces a new team building mechanic that brings additional depth and gameplay variety to the series -- players could now capture and recruit characters and train them to be part of their army to help Snake on his mission. You could even take your squad into multiplayer battles, a step forward from the 1-on-1 conflicts of 'Acid.' Set in 1970, the game acts as a missing link in the ongoing Metal Gear Solid narrative, as players learn more about returning characters such as Para-Medic, Major Zero and Sigint and also witness Big Boss' greatest tragedy -- one that sets into motion the events of later games in the series' timeline.

Most technological advances begin with a basic desire by a scientist to find a way to make things simpler or more accessible. Like The Six Million Dollar Man everyone wants their technology to be 'better than [it] was before. Better. Stronger. Faster.'

Unfortunately, progress is limited by process. Even the titles we play today represent only a fraction of the initial creative intent and desire put forth by the games' designers. But what if game devs could just snap their fingers and have any major technological problem within game production disappear? Anything these developers could think of would be possible. What would they fix?

A current feature on 1UP gives some of the industry's top devs just such an ability. Using the time honored tool for creative brainstorming, three wishes from a genie, these visionaries had no trouble concocting magical solutions to their daily obstacles.

Producers and directors of top games like 'SUPREME COMMANDER,' 'ELDER SCROLLS: OBLIVION,' along with the creators of the seminal titles 'Ultima Online' and 'The Sims' think outside the sandbox to come up with wildly creative innovations in game development. Many of them are light years away from being possible, but every great advancement begins with an impossible idea.

Here are some excepts from their wish lists:

Chris Taylor:

...I will say it's not technology that's standing in the way of creating the ultimate videogame experience. It's inspiration, it's creativity, it's sweat...and, of course, it's money or production value.

Richard Garriott:

Tools that keep pace with evolving hardware and game needs that don't require periodic rewrites and instead allow us to get content in games as fast as we can develop it.

American McGee:

A brain-input device that does away with the clunky -- and antique -- keyboard-and-mouse input system and upgrades to a mind-linked "what you imagine is what you get" system for the creation of art assets, music, animation, text, and so forth.

Will Wright:

Good pathfinding. It's surprising. You'd think that pathfinding's a solved problem, yet even to this day, with incredibly powerful computers and software, pathfinding still ends up being the biggest pain in the ass imaginable.

Warren Spector:

I'd create a game engine as generally useful, as easy to use, and as readily accessible as the equipment required to make a movie. The fact that we have to basically reinvent the camera every time we make a game [and] have to rework our A.I., user interface, physics, and gameplay tools with each and every game is crazy.

Ray Muzyka & Greg Zeschuk:

...we're still haunted by the elusive level of immersion that a truly intelligent artificial intelligence could demonstrate. When we talk about intelligence, we mean A.I. smart enough to pass the Turing test: A.I. that for all intents and purposes is indistinguishable from a human. Think HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey, minus that creepy red eye. By helping us to bring our characters even closer to "life," we believe people experiencing our games would benefit, as we could provide near-infinite variety and depth of experience plus infinite replayability.

Josh Mosqueira:

Wish one: nonintrusive, unhackable copy protection (NIUHCP). Piracy doesn't just hurt -- it kills games.

Wish two: an end of the hardware arms race. Sacrilege, I know. But if the hardware arms race continues, it's only going to result in PC gaming becoming a hobby of the elite few and, even worse, allow consoles to reign as the defacto gaming platforms.

If I had those wishes as a gamer, my first would be that level transitions be loaded in the background of the preceding board. Wish two would be in-game strategy guides. And the last involves Olivia Munn, a 'Wii Fit' board and an anti-gravity chamber.

Well, I needed one that was completely improbable. You know how hard 'Wii Fit' is to find?

Well, someone did something. Looks like either some clever Photoshop hack mocked up an image of the bronze statue of Hendrix that sits in the grounds of the Isle of Wight's Dimbola Lodge, turning Hendrix's guitar into the 'Guitar Hero' controller to celebrate the fact that there will be two main-stage performances of the game at this year's music festival, or someone really did sticker up the statue. I really don't know which, if either, is worse.

Terrible.

Graphic artist Jared Moraitis takes an 'Elseworlds'-cum-'What If?' approach to the legendary video game hero, Pac-Man, with these stunning pieces on his BLOG, Pop-Monkey Stuff.

After our earlier look at YTMND.com's 'Pac-Man in Space' ILLUSTRATION, we couldn't help getting another alternate interpretation of the iconic character.

The ever-funky Pop-Monkey even provided a hilariously creative fictional history behind the prints.

In 1979, Japanese citizen/artist Toru Iwatani, wanted to make amends to the United States on behalf of Japan for the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II. His initial thought was to create another statue-like monument in the tradition of the Statue of Liberty. After several months of futile efforts hacking and carving away at a great slab of rare yellow marble, Toru came to the cold realization that he was not, in fact, a sculptor by any stretch of the imagination. In a fit of rage and frustration before he sulked off to commit seppuku, he knocked the head off his prototype "monument", sending it crashing to the ground, where it broke into pieces upon impact. Searching for an implement sharp enough to carve his own guts out into a steaming heap on the floor, Toru noticed that the once rounded head-shape now seemed to be gaping at him with an open, hungry mouth, due to the wedge that had been chipped free during his fit. Suddenly, inspiration struck, sending Toru scrabbling for his drawing pad. There, Toru sketched out the basic outline for what would become the greatest video game in human history (suck it, Grand Theft Auto!), which made much more sense than the whole statue thing, since he happened to work for the electronics company Namco.

The technology of the times, however, proved to be extremely limiting for poor Toru. As a result, the finished product was a far cry from the expansive and imaginative fantasy epic Toru called "Paku-Paku Taberu". All he could manage with the creative electronic tools at his disposal was a shamefully simplified, flat chase game with simple colors, sounds, and objectives. The noble yellow hero he spent days sketching was reduced to a flat gobbling pie. His ever-pursuing enemies, the dreaded Oni of Japanese mythology, became simple cookie-cutter, dead-eyed "ghost monsters". The game's title was changed to Pakku-Man, which became "Pac-Man" in the United States, and quickly ascended to it's rightful position as the greatest and most popular video game phenomenon in history. Tragically, Toru would never live to see the success of his creation, as he buckled under the shame and dishonor from what he perceived as a "pathetic failure destined to bring misfortune upon Japan". Toru took his own life even as the first Pac-Man game cabinets made their way to US shores.

But don't just surf by without paying a first hand visit to Pop-Monkey's blog, where he features many more of his edgy designs and illustrations. Here, you'll also find information on purchasing prints of Jared's quality work and learn about future gallery appearances.
